Visiting a Website Task

To begin our search, we used the search engine “google” to provide websites linked to the theme of chocolate. From this list we choose the website www.cadbury.com/

This site makes use of a variety of different fonts, colours and visuals, all to capture different interests of the viewer. This site is very interactive, with a variety of pictures and moving images. From the homepage, the text prompts you to move onto a link to another topic, such as a competition or information with relevant visuals to support the topic. The written text sits mostly on the outer edge of the page, the main picture being the central focus point to lead towards playing a game.

When browsing through this website, initially we visited the links that were dominant on the page such as the games and then followed different links to areas that we felt were most interesting or capturing to us. We did return to the homepage through links to take us back to the main page where it was easy to access other areas of the site. The site mimics the actual cadbury world and the general cadbury theme i.e. through use of colours and a magical feeling.

The site easily appeals to any age group and would particually work well with children. The language is very colloquial i.e. “fun & stuff” making it easy to read and appealing to the younger audience. A lot of the text is written in bold and different colours which makes it stand out and makes it more interesting to read; young children would find it particularly accesible. Rhetorical questions such as ‘Have you got a taste for fun?’ are used to encourage further reading and prompts the audience to click on the various links.

This website would help children to improve their literacy skills by looking at a varitey of multi-modal texts i.e. videos, games, written text etc, which all help children understand how to find various types of information through a fun and creative medium.
